The NECN Weather Team welcomes Meteorologist Danielle Niles!
Posted by Matt Noyes November 3, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Today is an exciting day for the NECN Weather Team - we welcome aboard our newest teammate, Danielle Niles. Born and raised in New England, Danielle traveled the nation, expanding her knowledge of meteorology every step of the way - from her Undergraduate degree at UMass Lowell, to her Masters Degree at Florida State University, to storm chasing across tornado alley. Now, Danielle has come home to share this knowledge, and her forecasts, with all of us in New England. Today, we take a moment with Matt to get to know Danielle better, and welcome her to the team.

Got something to say?

Welcome to the airwaves, Danielle! I’ve long thought NECN did the best weather job in New England, but now I’ll be watching even more. I loved the interview-you were relaxed and had great rapport with Matt Can’t wait to see your first tough snow call!
Dear Matt,
you are my favorite meteorologist, I have a project at school and I need to find out how many inches of snow we had last november and december-2007,
would there be a website that would help me on this , as I need which days we had a SNOW FALL.
Thank you,
carol fuoco
Matt;
I just wanted you to know that I always watch your weather report in the morning before heading out. It is concise and usually very accurate. You are a real pro!
I have watched you on NECN for many years and I hope you will be there for a long time to come.
Keep up the good work. I think you and Danielle will make a great on-air team.
I don’t mean to be disrespectful to Ms. Niles but where is Jodie Frazie?
Welcome aboard Danielle! Your New England background should give you a “leg up” on those meteorologists “imported” from other areas who aren’t familiar with the region’s climatic idiosyncrasies.
With that said, I know education is one of the goals of the NECN weather staff. Most of the younger generations today are familiar with the metric system. We now measure a lot of consumer liquid products (soft drinks for example) in liters, our road races in kilometers. In addition, NECN is normally carried on Hotel/Motel television systems to visitors from Canada and the rest of the world. Can metric system measurements be “phased in” to the telecasts? It IS after all, so much simpler to work with, and really not hard to get used to. The biggest problem is when people try to “convert”, which is really more a “way of thinking” process than the mathematical one most turn it into. For example,. If they’re using an electronic thermometer most likely they can simply push a little switch and PRESTO! They discover that 20-22 is a nice temperature for the living room! Read that other scale on your speedometer and discover that; yes you CAN do 100 on the Pike without getting a ticket! Please take this into consideration.
Thanks, and again, Welcome Danielle!

Hi Danielle,
It’s great to see you on-air at NECN now. I’m a weather spotter for NECN, and look forward to providing my observations from Atkinson, NH to you. Hopefully I’ll be reporting some snow in the near future. I agree with the comments posted above; you and Matt will make a great team on NECN!
All the best,
Ryan Breton
For the last time; where is Jodie Frazie???
